Kia Motors Hybrid Car the most exceptional gas mileage worldwide
It’s now official. Kia Motors has proved itself to have the most exceptional gas mileage worldwide for a hybrid car. The Optima Hybrid Sedan put a new Guinness World Record in the books for using the least amount of fuel recorded on a drive through all 48 contiguous states. Chris Bernius and Wayne Gerdes were the drivers who rose to the challenge by working their way from Georgia all the way around the nation back to South Carolina. Their quest was comprised of more than 7,800 miles!
Lowest fuel consumption driving
To break the world record, Guinness said that the Kia Optima Hybrid must exceed 52.27 mpg which it did with flying colors. The 14-day road trip used only 5.5 tanks of gas, averaging at more than 64 mpg for the entire journey. Gerdes and Bernius didn’t merely break a world record, but they also left the Optima Hybrid’s highway fuel consumption rate in the dust by 60 percent.
On September 12, 2011, a Guinness evaluator Philip Robertson presented a certificate to the two motorists at the public ceremony held on Kia Motors’ campus in West Point, Georgia. The world record on the official document was titled “lowest fuel consumption driving through all 48 contiguous U.S. states in
a gasoline hybrid car.” This was a grand moment indeed for all who have a part in Kia Motors. Thomas Oh, the Senior Vice President of Kia Motors, said, “The drivers had to complete their unsupported drive through all kinds of American terrain and weather conditions and they did it without a single hitch from the Optima Hybrid while setting what is such an impressive fuel consumption figure.”
