This technology doesn’t just make things easier, quicker, safer, more convenient, more practical and more efficient, it also makes you look good at the same time. We call this designer technology.

OUTSTANDING / CONSTRUCTION

LED Daytime Running Lights* make sure other motorists can see you in all conditions. They also add a touch of style to the exterior along with the projection headlights. The headlights bookend the tiger-nose grille, Kia’s trademark twin tab grille with its geometrical lattice pattern. The front end of the Rio has a touch of menace with a wide bumper that houses a large air intake and fog lights.

BEAUTIFUL / SPACES

The Rio is also a master of illusion. It appears small from the outside, but feels big inside. The roomy cabin has abundant space for your limbs as well as for storage. The rear seats can be folded to increase luggage capacity to an agoraphobic 900+ litres of space. There are no average sizes, therefore this isn’t an average car.
The three-cylinder gauge Supervision Cluster* makes information stand out just like this. Legibility is enhanced on the instrument cluster, dashboard as well as the audio and heating systems via the use of Kia’s signature red on the back lighting. What your eyes see will merely confirm what your fingers instructed via the steering wheel mounted controls.

IMPRESSIVE / PERFORMANCE

The Rio has a new, lightweight 1.2 Kappa engine with a straightened air intake system, allowing the engine to inhale a larger volume and produce more torque. 120Nm of torque at 4 000rpm to be precise, with a power output of 65kW. To save weight (and fuel), the new in-line four-cylinder Kappa engine is made of high-pressure die-cast aluminium - just like an F1 racing car engine. To reduce emissions, cut fuel consumption and boost power output, it incorporates numerous advanced features such as an offset crankshaft and dual continuously variable valve timing (D-CVVT).

The all-new 1.4 Gamma engine is designed for those who need a little extra power but without incurring a big loss in fuel economy. To boost power and reduce fuel consumption, multi-point fuel injection (MPI), die-cast aluminium construction, CVVT, a silent steel timing chain and off-set crankshaft have been applied to the Gamma engine. This results in a power output of 79kW at 6 300rpm and a torque reading of 135Nm at 4 200rpm.

Power is fine, but it’s only great when you can harness it. The Rio does this with a six-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic gearbox on the 1.4-litre engine. The 1.2-litre engine has the benefit of a five-speed manual transmission. PRECIOUS / SAFETY

When solid metal meets solid anything, air is your best friend. The Rio’s six airbag system* is comprised of two front airbags, two side airbags and two curtain airbags to provide protection and reassurance. Underneath, a

reinforced high tensile steel sub-frame offers strength where it’s needed most.
